Rope handled paper bags are produced by hand to some extent. Because of this, it is possible to fold them much smaller than machine made bags. The sample shown here is for an NHS promotion and is approximately 8cm x 8cm + 1cm in size. The bag was a give away product as part of a national awareness campaign including TV advertising. The bags are printed with a full colour image.
Due to the size of the bag, it was recommended that a J-Fixed type of handle were used as this would allow the bag to sit flat. Usual rope tieing methods involve a know at either end. This would haev results in a bulky mess on such a small bag. The knots are not as noticeable on larger paper carrier bags. The J-Fixed handle is similar to the twisted or tape paper SOS carrier bags. The cotton rope is attached to a peice of paper which is glued underneath a turned over top. The turn over top has two slits (in the shape of a "J" - hence the name) on each side to allow the handle through the turn over top.
These bags were finished with a gloss lamination and packed with give away items prior to be sent out.
